How to create drop down menu or drop down list in excel 2016, 2013, 2010

How to create your own drop-down list/drop-down menu for some particular cell or particular column?


Do the following steps:

  • Create a table on excel sheet with some set values like shown in the below image



  • Set some set of values which you want to have a drop-down value and keep ready in another sheet on excel sheet.



  • Select the cell that will contain the drop-down list (cell E2, in this example).



  • Go to the Data tab, in the Data Tools group, click Data Validation option:




  • Select LIST from the drop-down menu (ALLOW)


  •  Select the top arrow button and select the SCRATCH sheet for values and then select the down arrow button and click OK button




  • Then you can drag the transformed cell till the end of the table for that particular column to have the entire column a drop-down list or drop-down menu
